Why tell your story now? I think the only way to make change happen is to first start with awareness. People who have experienced trauma need to know they aren’t alone. That they aren’t “crazy” especially coming from someone who was gaslit for so long into believing that everything was ok. Sometimes we need reassurance in life. Healing takes time.
I was a child who thought if I ever spoke up about what I was going through that it would only get worse because nothing would be done. So it is my hope that as a collective group of people we can educate others about what to watch for and how to reassure a child or young adult that they will be protected if something bad is happening.
If you or someone you know is being abused (or suspected abuse) please visit my resource pages here on my website to learn more about getting help. I’ve also provided the crisis hotline numbers for immediate assistance.
